X 6in. HQ Photo, not RPPC…Very Rare, limited special issue reproduction published in the 1950s by the Marine Historical Society of Detroit. The Marine City Photographer Louis James Pesha’s family allowed the MHSD to make a series of photographic prints, noted explicitly as the Pesha Series that were printed directly from his Glass Plate Negatives! Last two images supplied for additional Photographer reference. Most are historic Pesha photographs of Boats, at various docks and boat landings or steaming up or down the Detroit and St. Clair Rivers. ….Size: 6″ in. X 4″ in. approximately. Great item, part of a wonderful selection of Great Lakes Boat and Ship Photographs and Photo RPPC Postcards. These items are part of a vast collection from a passionate Great Lakes Maritime enthusiast, collector, historian, and member of the Marine Historical Society of Detroit and the Dossin Great Lakes Museum. Some of these items were individually photographed, and there are no known negatives of them! All…true treasures for those interested in our Great Lakes Maritime History and Heritage! You will find that an item may be a limited special issue reproduction published in the 1950s by the MHSD (noted explicitly as a Pesha Series photograph printed from his Glass Plate Negatives). Some are real photo postcards, and several of the images found were actually made into this collector’s Christmas cards (printed on photographic paper) back in the late 50s and early 60s. The collector and historian of these items was also a member of the Dossin Great Lakes Museum, founded in 1949 as the City Maritime Museum aboard the J. T. Wing wooden schooner, the last commercial sailing ship on the Great Lakes. The museum closed by 1956, less than a decade later, because of the deteriorating condition of the schooner, but Maritime History lived on!!! The Marine Historical Society of Detroit (MHSD), if you do not know, is a non-profit organization founded in 1944 to promote the study and preservation of Maritime History in the Great Lakes region, a world resource on the matter. The Society’s headquarters are located in Detroit, Michigan.
