Addressed by Corning to: “Mess Robinson Charett Co/18 Broad Street/New York”. Corning has written at lower left: “____ American Express Co”. Industrialist and banker Corning, who amassed a fortune of $8 million, developed New York state’s railway system. In his 20 years as President of the Utica and Schenectady Railroad Company, he expanded the line and merged it into the New York Central in 1853 of which he was President until 1864. He was a Director until his death in 1872. Lightly creased. Folds, vertical folds touch the “a” in Erastus and the “g” in Corning. Ink smudged at 8 words (all legible). Mounting remnant on verso, light show through at left margin. Pencil notes (unknown hand) at blank areas. Slightly foxed.
